United Methodist Men

"EUnited Methodist Menvery Man Shares in Evangelism, Mission and Spiritual Life"

The Purpose of United Methodist Men

The Servant Leader Model

The General Commission on United Methodist Men shall have primary oversight for the coordination and resourcing of men’s ministry within The United Methodist Church.

United Methodist Men exists to declare the centrality of Christ in every man’s life. Men’s ministry leads to the spiritual growth of men and effective discipleship. This purpose is served as men are called to model the servant leadership of Jesus Christ.

Meetings

UMM meets once a month in the Fellowship Hall.

Special Notes

Meetings

At the UMM’s breakfast on Saturday, June 6, Tony & Mary Leone spoke about their recent trip to an orphanage in India. Slides and videos of this trip showed a very poor country where kids are found roaming the streets looking for food. Their parents had disappeared. This was in stark contrast to their trip to the Russian orphanage a few years ago where they took children to McDonalds. They would eat half of their meal and save the other half of it for later as if they would not get another meal. The kids in Indian were in a Christian orphanage as opposed to the state run facility in Russia.

For our meeting in August, I have tentatively scheduled the Chief Information Officer of Texas Health Resources to speak. What is Texas Health Resources? That is the merger of Harris Methodist, Presbyterian and Arlington Memorial Hospitals. This gentleman is a very smart Christian and I think you will find him very interesting. We will have no meeting in July as the first Saturday in the month is the 4th of July holiday.

The Methodist Men are cooking breakfast themselves so we are able to provide a better and more plentiful meal at the same price. Our cooks are getting good; we are working hard to get it out of the oven piping hot!

Outreach

In you know of someone in our church that might need help such as home repairs, work around the house and they are unable to do it for themselves, contact me and the Methodist Men will try and put together a group to help. I am not sure we can take care of all the requests, but we will see what we can do. Hope to see you at our next breakfast – Saturday, August 1 .

July 6, 2009 - The Methodist Men have found someone in the church that needs help. Danny Elms and Pete McNabb stopped by to determine the needs and found there are improvements to this person’s home that will need to be made to meet the City Code. It was estimated it would cost between $600 - $755 for materials. The Methodist Men will put together a group to do the labor. If you can help, please donate what you can to the Methodist Men. Contact Barbara Canafax in the church office; she will handle it from there. Your donations will be greatly appreciated.
